SOUTH AFRICA JUNIOR TOUR 2007

A Message from the Chairman

"Not long ago the idea of an OTCC junior tour to foreign climes would have been greeted with disbelief. Yet, after 18 months of planning and preparation, here we are – 30 youngsters and 49 parents and siblings – about to embark on the trip of a lifetime.
For this we are indebted to Merwe and his wife, Jackie. They have worked enormously hard organising our itinerary for the coming two weeks. Whilst cricket is the main reason for the tour, we will also be experiencing the colourful culture and fascinating history of South Africa.
I must also thank our active and enthusiastic steering group, who have remained focused and all pulled together. We have also had fantastic support from all of the touring families and, as you will see, many generous sponsors. In particular I want to mention our long association with Oundle School. We are proud that the headmaster, Mr. Charles Bush, has accepted the position of club president.
On the cricketing front, a combination of high-quality coaching and a talented group of youngsters has led to ever-improving league and cup results over the last few seasons. However, we know that the standard of opposition in South Africa is likely to be very strong. They are nearing the end of their cricket season, whilst we have not even started. We expect our tourists to remain positive and upbeat in all of their matches and, above all, to learn from this valuable experience."

Tour Chairman, Oundle Town Cricket Club
